Sunflowers have become synonymous with the artist Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890). For van Gogh, sunflowers signified gratitude. He painted Twelve Sunflowers in anticipation of Paul Gauguin's arrival to the yellow house they would share in Arles. Van Gogh considered sunflowers his signature flower, writing to his brother Theo in 1889 that "the sunflower is mine."
Often referred to as the "Gem of the Baltic," the highest quality amber comes from around the Baltic sea. The people of Poland have a long, rich history of working with amber that spans back to prehistoric times. Baltic amber is believed to have medicinal purposes and was sought after by Ancient Greece and Roman kings and queens to show their wealth and nobility. In the 19th century, amber became a traditional gift for brides and writers. This modern, genuine Baltic amber brooch set in .925 Sterling silver makes a wonderful gift for any occasion.
